ELLINGTON'S PRESENTS This recording is the first in a series of studio recordings that bring together the talents of up and coming musicians and combines them with legendary performers. This first CD features The Danny Sinoff Quartet with Jazz & Blues Sax legend David 'Fathead' Newman, one in a line of great Texas tenor sax men. With their cool and loose swinging sound, The Danny Sinoff Quartet once again makes their mark with their latest release Ellington's Presents The Danny Sinoff Quartet With Special Guest David 'Fathead' Newman. Ellington's Presents is the third album from The Danny Sinoff Quartet and Ellingtons, their first studio recording and the second album to feature a guest from the quartet's performances at Ellingtons Jazz Club. This album glides with the charm of Danny Sinoff's smooth vocals and dancing fingertips on the piano; the swinging trumpet of Dan Miller that can fly and decorates each line (add sharply produced); the solid tempo of drummer Tim Ruger and bassist Jay Heavilin acts like a harmonic referee. Fathead Newman's complete mastery of the tenor saxophone is fully evident on this recording. Playing behind a vocalist is a delicate art and David is a true master as on the first track "Do Nothing Till You Hear From Me." His sound and improvisations are rich as on "Over the Rainbow and "Cry Me A River" with nurtured tones that soothes the soul. "Ellington's Presents..." is a appealing collaboration with classics like "September in the Rain", In Your Own Sweet Way and Don't Get Around Much Anymore" that showcases the musicians' responsive and distinctive versatile talents. It's an enchanting musical journey that you'll want to repeat over and over and over. |
